Besides having a scholarship in their name, honorees also agree to mentor the student who receives their scholarship during their time at WashU Medicine.
History of DASP
The Distinguished Alumni Scholarship Program (DASP) was established in 1989 and is a prestigious honor among medical schools. It provides four entering students per year with a four-year, full-tuition scholarship, resulting in 16 DASP students at any given time. The Washington University Medical Center Alumni Association Executive Council funds the scholarships and names them in honor of four outstanding alumni annually. Students are selected by a faculty committee based on exceptional academic achievement and character, and they retain the scholarship if they continue to meet the eligibility requirements throughout their medical school tenure. Additionally, the program offers mentorship to the scholarship recipients.
