Raman Malhotra, MD, professor of neurology, has been appointed interim chief of the Section of Sleep Medicine at WashU Medicine Neurology. His new role takes effect July 1, 2025.
This change comes as current Section Chief Brendan Lucey, MD, professor of neurology, plans to focus more on his pioneering research in understanding the relationship between sleep and Alzheimer’s pathology. Lucey has lead the Sleep Section since 2016, during which time the section has benefitted from substantial growth in clinical volume, research accomplishments and educational advancements.
Malhotra has been with WashU Medicine Neurology since 2018, leading the Sleep Medicine Fellowship Program for much of that time. Along with his leadership within the department, Malhotra has served as president of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and has been on the board for many years. He was director of the Sleep Medicine Lab and Residency Program at St. Louis University before coming to WashU Medicine.
The department extends its most sincere gratitude to Lucey for his invaluable service and tremendous achievements during his tenure and is excited to support Malhotra as he takes on his new leadership role.
