Claudia Gambrah-Lyles, MD, MSCI, joins the faculty of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis on July 1, 2026, as instructor of neurology in the Division of Pediatric and Developmental Neurology.
After earning her MD at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, Gambrah-Lyles completed her pediatrics and child neurology residencies at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, then a combined pediatric and adult multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunology fellowship at WashU Medicine. During fellowship, she earned a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation with a concentration in dissemination and implementation science.
She is a pediatric neuroimmunologist and health systems and implementation science researcher dedicated to improving the transition from pediatric to adult healthcare for adolescents with neurologic conditions. At St. Louis Children’s Hospital, she cares for children with multiple sclerosis and other neuroinflammatory disorders and is building a transition-to-adult-care program within the Division of Pediatric and Developmental Neurology.
Gambrah-Lyles is currently funded by the NIH and is pursuing several lines of research. Through an NIH/NINDS K12 career development award, she is studying healthcare continuity in pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis, applying systems science to understand where and why adolescents fall out of care as they move into the adult healthcare system. With support from the Center for Dissemination and Implementation Science, she is adapting evidence-based transition practices for implementation in pediatric MS care. More broadly, her research applies dissemination and implementation science across child neurology to deliver actionable, evidence-based interventions that improve health quality, equity and outcomes for patients with pediatric-onset neuroinflammatory disease, both in the U.S. and abroad. Her prior international research spans Botswana, Brazil and Zambia.

She is a member of the United States Network of Pediatric Multiple Sclerosis Centers and serves on the Child Neurology Foundation’s Executive Task Force on Transition to Adult Care. She is also a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the Child Neurology Society and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and was recently inducted to the WashU Medicine Chapter of Alpha Omega Alpha (AΩA) Honor Medical Society.
Outside of work, Gambrah-Lyles enjoys sewing her own wardrobe, traveling with her husband (Gipson) and upholding her title as the Gambrah family Scrabble champion.
