This selective offers flexible, hands-on exposure to clinical neuroscience. Students will have opportunities to shadow physicians across multiple specialties, including:
- Adult and pediatric neurology
- Neurointensive care
- Neuroradiology
- Neuropathology
- Adult and pediatric neurosurgery
- Adult and pediatric psychiatry
What you can experience
- Observe procedures such as:
- Nerve conduction studies and electromyograms
- Brain or spine surgeries
- Angiograms and interventional neuroradiology
- Brain cutting sessions
- Review EEGs and video recordings of patients monitored for epilepsy or sleep disorders
- Attend clinical rounds or shadow residents on call in neurology, pediatric neurology, neurosurgery or psychiatry
- Participate in weekly conferences
Schedule
Although the course description lists weekly meetings (3:00–4:30 p.m.), most students choose to spend that time shadowing and attending conferences instead.
If you prefer structured teaching, case discussions or demonstrations of neurological findings on inpatients, let the coordinator know.
Grading
- Pass/fail based on participation
- Requirements:
- Complete at least 3 activities
- Contribute to the selective reflections
- Submit a brief summary of your experiences for feedback
