Through the Neurology Steering Committee on Culture and Wellness, we aim to support, advance and educate the department’s faculty, staff and learners on our department mission to reach our goals as a world-class academic neurology department.

Our philosophy in action

The Steering Committee for Culture and Wellness is committed to guiding the Department of Neurology to promote wellness in the workplace by:

  • Improving methods and creating synergies that enhance wellness in teaching, research and clinical care in partnership with the university
  • Facilitating and leveraging community- and patient-engaged processes which foster an improved culture of wellness both on and off campus
  • Actively employing intentional recruitment and retention strategies to improve the experience of department faculty, staff and learners
  • Guiding leadership in career development and mentorship for faculty, staff and learners in the Department of Neurology

In recruitment

We seek to improve culture in all forms among our faculty, staff and trainees. In employee hiring, we are training people to serve to support search committees in attracting, evaluating and hiring top-notch candidates.

In mentorship

We are putting forward those who excel in mentoring, training those who want to develop the skills and being intentional about mentoring opportunities.

In research

We are expanding community engagement programs designed to help us focus research to serve our St. Louis community needs.

In staff development

To mirror opportunities such as Grand Rounds that allow faculty to interact and learn from each other, we created similar quarterly events for staff.

In departmental planning…

We seek input from everyone, including learners. Plans address individuals in all areas, including core values, internal culture, business development, research goals and professional development.
