Message from the Fellowship Director Baback Arshi, MD
Welcome to neurocritical care at Washington University in St. Louis.
Our team is dedicated to providing personalized, world-class medicine in the heart of St. Louis, Missouri. The ICU located at Barnes-Jewish Hospital is one of the largest in the country. The ICU has 29 beds, eight full-time faculty, and nine fellowship positions. We manage a range of diseases including traumatic brain injury, subarachnoid hemorrhage, stroke and spine disease. The ICU is equipped with cutting-edge technology including portable CT scanners, a PET scanner, and state-of-the-art bedside ultrasound machines.
All of the resources of Washington University provide a rich environment in which to train the future leaders in neurocritical care. The United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties (UCNS)-certified two-year fellowship has grown to four fellows per year and one research fellow. Fellows experience a structured curriculum to hone their skills, including multidisciplinary rounding, hands-on experience with procedures and an evidence-based approach to medicine. Graduating fellows from Washington University have gone on to hold positions in clinical and academic medicine while finding success as clinicians, educators and researchers.
At Washington University, we are most proud of our personalized approach to medicine. The neurocritical care family includes a closely knit group of physicians, pharmacists, fellows, residents, nurse practitioners and nurses. Together, we are committed to improving the health of the people and community we serve.
Applications for our four annual positions will be accepted through the SF match. We will consider applications from residents and fellows eligible for licensure in Missouri, including those with H-1 and J-1 visas. Thank you for your interest in our program at Washington University.
