The WashU Neurology department works closely with the department of Graduate Medical Education to offer general wellness resources as well as with our own residents and the PGY4 wellness chief to sponsor internal initiatives and events.
Within the neurology department, we are constantly working to improve wellness at both a day-to-day and broader level. Efforts to do this include:
- Monthly resident wellness events including department funded tickets to local sporting events, happy hours, mini golf, barcades, bowling and more
- Private neurology-only resident lounge area stocked with snacks and drinks available at all hours
- Regularly scheduled group counseling sessions with GME counselors in addition to personal counseling offered through GME
- Availability of individualized wellness resources such as the Better Together program for one-on-one coaching
- 35 weeks of dedicated elective time spread throughout PGY2-4 where clinical work is not scheduled on weekends (in addition to clinic weeks without weekend responsibilities)
- Flexibility to take either 4 weeks of vacation or 3 weeks vacation and seven personal days to use at each resident’s discretion
